In light of the fact that half the expense in the Year 2000 conversion process will be in testing, this talk focuses on the process of testing for compliancy. It is recommended that all software be tested using the structured testing methodology. For Year 2000 projects, a modified version of this methodology can be used. The cyclomatic complexity (which determines the number of linearly independent paths through a module of code) can be calculated as it relates to the date references within the code. The specified Data Complexity (sdv(g)) will then indicate the paths through the code that need to be tested to complete structured testing on the date references. This methodology will insure that all the data corrections have been tested independently of each other.

Nearly all of the concern to date regarding the Year 2000 has to do with converting mainframe COBOL code. Because of the level of difficulty in solving the mainframe problems, almost no one is dealing with the problems of 4GLs and decision support. It is already too late for most organizations to rewrite all of their decision support reports and systems. Mr. Orr presents a "strategic data warehousing" approach that allows organizations to preserve enough of their decision support applications to survive the Year 2000.

If your organization is tackling Year 2000 internally, is your project effective? If you are using a Year 2000 vendor or tool, how do you evaluate your effectiveness? Progress? Plan? Likelihood for success? Year 2000 is new to all of us and we have one chance to fix it on time. The Millennium Audit/Project Review is a key weapon in helping assess your Year 2000 project. In this session, learn about the logistics of an audit, who should be involved, the ten key audit areas, and the benefits... whether you use third party auditors or even "self-audit" with your own staff.

From the standpoint of application development, becoming Year 2000 compliant requires more than finding, changing, and testing every reference to a date in every production application throughout the enterprise. Mission critical business initiatives cannot be delayed while the Year 2000 conversion is in progress. Mr. Allegra gives IT executives a realistic strategy addressing often overlooked, but nonetheless critical challenges unique to the Year 2000 upgrade. Among the issues explored are:

The objective of testing is to reduce the inherent risks in computer systems and to evaluate the effectiveness of the test process. As a result, excessive amounts of information are generated, necessitating numerous computer executions, large storage requirements, and considerable human resources combined with coordination and communication between workers. Capturing test results serves the dual purpose of using them for analysis and as a means to report the results from these analyses to involved parties. This presentation illustrates what information should be contained in test analysis report documentation.

Year 2000 discussions of impact and strategic and tactical planning have generally been speculative and theoretical, until now! There are a handful of companies that had the foresight to start early and are now well into their conversion cycles. This talk focuses on the real lessons learned... estimates versus reality; where the BIG issues really are; what resources are truly required. By capturing these lessons you should be able to refine your plans and move more rapidly into the next millennium with lower risk.
The turn of the century will be of critical operational and strategic importance to corporations around the world... ...but, dealing with the problem of the transition across the century date change NOW could save your organization millions of dollars. |

Organizations must turn the year 2000 challenge into an opportunity for improvement and to better understand their various business requirements and decide whether to retain, redesign, replace, or retire existing applications. This presentation explores many issues and potentially "golden" opportunities for organizations as they enter the new millennium.

Co-Founder and CEO
Greenwich Mean Time Ltd.
Karl W. Feilder is CEO of Greenwich Mean Time, a company set up specifically to raise awareness of PC and client/server Year 2000 issues. Feilder explains, with live examples, the nature of the PC problem, covering BIOS, Operating Systems, and application level issues. He presents the latest results from Greenwich Mean Time testing, which (at the time of writing) indicate that there are Year 2000 concerns with some 27% of PC programs checked, even including latest release software from the large manufacturers. He concludes with advice on how to proceed and the next logical steps which should be taken by anyone with a PC.
