- Start it as a grassroots effort.
- Have a champion and/or steering committee to
push it forward.
- Have business goals drive it.
- Choose your technology early and carefully.
- Get the network in place as soon as you can.
- Plan capacity ahead of demand.
- Determine who owns the intranet and how much
the IT folks should be involved.
- Involve all stakeholders and get them to work
together.
- Have someone in charge.
- Decide if you want standards and, if so, then
create them.
- Start small and start quicklyyou can
always change it later.
- Create the support structure early.
- Focus on compelling content.
- Modify the processes from paper-oriented to
on-line.
- Develop the skills you need.
- Promote and advertise it.
- It isn't easy to keep content up-to-date.
- Beware of legacy applications.
- Be prepared for concerns and fears.
- Make sure the business knows what's possible
for the intranet.
