Future of AS/400 Examined at New Conference

Gartner Group and DCI Team Up To Launch First Independent AS/400 Conference

Andover, MA -- The AS/400 Environment: Opportunities, Risks & Strategies Conference, to be held in Dallas from June 10-12, 1997, is the first impartial conference to focus on the strategic challenges of AS/400 enterprises. Gartner Group, the world's leading provider of IT research and analysis, and DCI, the largest U.S.-based promoter of IT educational trade shows and consulting, have developed a conference program that will address key midrange computing issues such as the Year 2000, data warehousing, network computing, electronic commerce, and Unix and NT alternatives. Presentations will be offered by Gartner Group's leading analysts, AS/400 end-users, and industry leaders including Bill Zeitler, general manager of IBM’s AS/400 Division.

More than 500 attendees are expected, including CIOs, IS managers and directors, senior architects and developers from companies with AS/400 infrastructures.

"Right now, the midrange market is more dynamic than it's ever been with the growing popularity of Unix and Windows NT environments," said Thomas Bittman, Conference Chairman and Research Director, Gartner Group. "We saw a need in the marketplace for an impartial conference to educate IS managers and developers on the future of the AS/400. The conference will provide a third-party analysis of applications and technologies on the AS/400 and alternatives to the AS/400."

Conference Highlights Include:

  • IBM's Vision for the Future of AS/400 – presented by Bill Zeitler, general manager of IBM's AS/400 Division.

  • The hottest debate in town – Chief technologists from IBM, Microsoft and SunSoft go head-to-head to discuss their technologies now and in the future.

  • The Future of AS/400 Panel Session – Gartner Group analysts answer your AS/400 strategic questions and provide insightful, actionable advice.

  • Experiences & Insights User Panel Session features CIOs from Fortune 500 companies who will discuss the role of the AS/400 in their enterprises.

Roundtable discussions are also scheduled so that attendees can interact with Gartner Group analysts and discuss topics such as negotiating the best deals, client/server experiences, application vendor experiences, and NT in AS/400 shops. In addition, the conference will feature a full-day, in-depth AS/400 data warehousing forum, sponsored by ShowCase Corp.

At the product exposition on June 10-11, attendees will see the latest in new products and services from the industry's leading vendors including IBM, ShowCase Corp., JD Edwards, Lawson Software, Vision Solutions, Data Mirror, PentaSafe, Seagull, Lakeview Technology, Sirius Computer Solutions, Open Universal Software, Synon, CorVu Corp., Silvon Software, Magic Software Enterprises, RMTi, Advanced Systems Concepts, and many more.
