Presentations on Data Mining, Intranets Will Highlight New York Edition of DCI's Data Warehouse World

Success of Santa Clara Show Indicates Strong Attendance at August Event

Andover, MA -- Two of the hottest topics in business today - data mining and intranets - will take center stage at DCI’s Warehouse World, August 13-15, 1996, at the New York Hilton and Towers in New York, New York. The show, along with a similar, highly successful DCI event held recently in Santa Clara, California, is widely recognized as the premier event in the data warehousing field.

The three-day conference exposition will offer a number of keynote addresses and presentations on the most current issues in data warehousing, with data mining and intranets the most topical. Both the technical aspects and the commercial applications of these rapidly emerging technologies will be featured. One of the more notable presentations will focus on a data mining product from IBM called Advanced Scout, which allows professional basketball coaches to create new strategies based on patterns in game data and video.

Based on the success and feedback received from show attendees and exhibitors in Santa Clara, DCI officials expect even stronger attendance at the New York event. Over 5,000 people attended the show, with over 800 attending the paid conference sessions. Initial feedback from the audience - comprised largely of high-level information technology managers and decision makers - indicates that the show, particularly tracks on data mining and intranets, were extremely well received.

The growing popularity of both data mining and intranets are beyond dispute. According to some sources, the market for data mining - the discovery of patterns in data that can be used to address critical business issues such as productivity, marketing effectiveness and risk management - will be billions of dollars by the year 2000. Intranets - private versions of the Internet that can be accessed only by specific audiences - are considered by many experts to be the most important new corporate platform since personal computers were introduced into the business environment.

These presentations are part of a conference that will feature more than 75 data warehousing experts, 100 conference sessions, numerous case study presentations and a variety of pre- and post-conference seminars highlighting the latest trends in data warehousing, a rapidly growing business tool. Also featured will be an exposition of more than 150 exhibitors showcasing the latest products and services.

The show is sponsored by DCI and META Group. Co-sponsors include Arbor Software Corp.; Computer Associates International; COMSHARE, Inc.; Database Programming & Design; Data Management Review; Dimensional Insight, Inc.; Holistic Systems, Inc.; IBM Corp.; Information Builders; Informix Software, Inc.; Informix Systems Journal; Kenan Technologies; MicroStrategy, Inc.; NCR Corp.; PC Week; Pilot Software, Inc.; Planning Sciences, Inc.; Praxis International; Price Waterhouse LLP; Red Brick Systems; SAS Institute, Inc.; SQL Forum; Sun Microsystems; Thomson Software Products, and more.
