3. Industrializing High-End Client/Server Systems Development with
VisualAge Generator

Stefano Sergi, VisualAge Generator Sales Support Manager
IBM Corporation
Tuesday 3:30-4:20 pm

Breakthrough improvements in application development productivity are required to meet today’s business needs. The industry is converging towards "construction from components" and "application frameworks." In this session, attendees learn how VisualAge Generator: exploits component architecture to fulfill the stringent requirements of scalable, reliable, high-performance client/server transactional systems; facilitates the transition of software production from craft to industrial discipline through the use of object frameworks and templates; and delivers the highest productivity and guarantees the highest degree of quality through an innovative, model-driven development approach.

5. Building Notes Applications with Lotus Components

Paul Clark, Marketing Specialist
Lotus Development Corporation
Wednesday, 9:30-10:20 am

This session includes an introduction to Lotus Components, Notes/FX, template builder, and the use of Notes IDE to program components using LotusScript. Attendees learn the differences between adding components to forms at design-time and adding them at run-time. Mr. Clark also demonstrates how to enhance Notes Release 4.5 applications with Lotus Components.

6. Using Lotus Kona Components

Paul Clark, Marketing Specialist
Lotus Development Corporation
Wednesday 3:00-3:50 pm

Lotus is developing a comprehensive set of tools and applications, based on Java code, named "Kona." These tools will enable rapid development and deployment of robust intranet business solutions. Kona will also provide a set of small, fast and easy to use end-user productivity tools in 100% pure Java, including spreadsheet, word processing, charting, project scheduling, presentation graphics, calendar to-do, and email. This session describes how these applets can provide the proper level of end-user functionality without unnecessary overhead, and how Kona components will allow business solutions to be built across all of these different clients.

11. IBM's VisualAge for C++ Completely Incremental Development System

Ian Carmichael
IBM Corporation
Thursday 4:30-5:20 pm

This session describes and demonstrates a completely incremental C++ development system. The system features program representation, which allows incremental builds, and tightly integrates the user-interface and the compiler. Also explained is an application programming interface that allows for extensions of the system kernel, user-interface, and program representation. IBM has a working system that can demonstrate most of these capabilities on C++ code. Attendees gain an understanding of the features of this technology, which will be included in future releases of VisualAge C++.
