1. Web-Enabled Database: Integration and Beyond

Richard Dow
IBM Corporation
Tuesday 2:30-3:20 pm

This presentation provides an overview of the 3-Tier Model as it relates to DB2 in a multi-platform environment. An implementation example is used to illustrate the configuration and implementation problems associated with a Web-based database view with focus on Lotus Domino. The requisite client and server components are addressed as they relate to solving the Net-based database problem and heuristics are offered to assist in similar implementation efforts.

2. Using Java in the Web Server

Mike Conner, Senior Technical Staff Member
IBM Corporation
Tuesday 3:30-4:20 pm

Java is widely used to develop applets that bring Web pages to life. This session, however, explores the use of Java to do programming in the Web server, where its value may be even greater. While the focus is on the use of Java in the ICS Web server, its use in Netscape’s and Sun’s Jeeves servers is also addressed. Attendees learn how to write servlets, server-side Java programs, as well as how to access databases and produce dynamic Web pages. Mr. Conner describes how to improve performance, quality and productivity using server-side Java.
